Market Update: Nifty closes lower on expiry day; PSU Bank index falls 5%

Benchmark indices closed lower on expiry day Thursday, with 609 stocks advancing as against 1185 declines while 60 remained unchanged on the NSE. On the other hand, 1115 stocks advanced and 1735 stocks declined while 162 remained unchanged on the BSE.

The 30-share BSE Sensex was down 111.20 points at 36,050.44 and the 50-share NSE Nifty cuts 16.35 points to 11,069.65.
From the Nifty, the stocks that gained the most were IBULHSGFIN which added 2.74% followed by ICICIBANK (2.06%), ULTRACEMCO (1.8%), VEDL (1.59%) and COALINDIA (1.34%).
From the BSE, the stocks that gained the most included L&T Technology Service (9.92%), NIIT Technologies (6.22%), Adani Enterprises Ltd (4.39%), UCO Bank (4.27%) and Greaves Cotton (3.88%).
48 stocks hit fresh 52-week high on NSE including Adani Enterprises Ltd, Escorts Ltd, ICICI Bank Ltd, ONGC, Tech Mahindra Ltd among others.
